I believe that the most important invention was the printing press. It was the very first technological invention and had an immense impact on the people living in the 1400s. It made modern life a lot easier and began the ongoing evolution in the world of technology. I believe that every invention is based on a pre-existing invention, or on ideas that already exist. People are always trying to find ways to improve what already exists and make life that much easier. Therefore, I believe that everything started with the printing press, and the world of creations has just snowballed ever since. Without this first technological breakthrough, modern day inventions such as digital cameras and ipods, may not have existed.

I think the most important invention was the creation of having internet I think this is the most important, because having internet helps us with many things, such as connecting with friends and family across the world or just reading whats happening in the world. It helps us find information and includes many other useful information that we may use in our daily life, such as even a dictionary.

I think that having the pencil was very useful. without it we never could have had a written language. I believe that the greeks came up with the best invention that we still use today.

I think that the cell phone was the most important invention made. I think that because if you're out how are you to get a hold of someone? Or if there was an emergancy or something you need a way to be able to contact someone.

I agree with Katherine. The printing press was the first major invention, and technology is pretty much about taking an idea and improving upon it to create something even better. But if there hadn't been a printing press, who knows how that could have changed history for us? We might not have the luxuries that technology has to offer us today, i.e cellphones, microwaves, etc.

i believe the printing press is the most important invention in the timeline. Without the printing press, printed newspapers and books would have never been introduced, and our knowledge would increase very slowly, no where close to our potential. Since the printing press was the first invention that improved our communication speed, I believe that if it was not invented, many things on the list would cease to exist. I think that the printing press is still one of the most important inventions today, because books and newspapers are widely read in all parts of the world, though internet will soon overtake it, when it reaches less technologically advanced countries

I believe that the most important invention on the list is the invention of the list is the invention of the transistor because without the invention of the transistor there wouldn’t be the invention of the integrated circuit. The unique thing about the transistor is that it was a very subtle invention because the wide spread effect of it was not known until later in the century. At first the transistor was only useful to certain number of scientists who used it to study computers. The scientists were then quick to realize the transistor’s potential in integrated Circuits. After the invention of the integrated circuits people started to see the potential and power of computers really quickly and soon other inventions were made such as the cassette tape, VCR and the internet. This is why the transistor was so important it was the reason why so many inventions were made because all the other inventions were based off computers and without transistors there wouldn’t be computers.

The most important invention i believe is also the printing press. The printing press is so important because of what it has brought us today. With out it, we wouldn't have all the technology that we had. The printing press was the "root" of this long list and without the root, the technology would've never evolved, improved or changed.

I believe that the most important invention was the printing press because it was the first invention and the base of technology. Everything is based on ideas that already exist and are always being improved and changed in a different way. The printing press was the beginning of change and technology.

I think that the telephone was the most important invention because it allows us to communicate from long distances. That way, if there's an emergency or problem, or even if you just need to talk to someone, you don't have to leave your home.

I believe that the Printing Press was the most important invention because it started the whole timeline. It made it so that we can mass produce copies of writing instead of having to re-write it. By mass producing writing we are able to learn faster and can feed information to everyone in a shorter time. People are able to read a book from the other side of the world easier thanks to the Printing Press.

I think that the BATTERY is the most important invention because without it, we wouldn't have any portable devices. For example, devices we can't live without such as a cellphone, a laptop, radios, and etc...all need batteries in order for them to work without extensions. It's hard to imagine a cell phone that does not come with a battery. It would not be a cell phone anymore but just a regular phone. Most of our technological uses would not be invented today without batteries because technology advances according to our needs and what people value the most today is conveniance. With batteries life is much more simple.

I believe that the most important invention was the pencil. It was the most useful thing in the ancient time, and without the invention of the pencil people could not write anything and they lost the easiest way to connect with others.

From what I think, the printing press is the most important invention of the list because (like mostly everyone else said), it was the root of our evolving technology. As the first step to more convenient and efficient communication, the printing press helped us record and study history, along with many other memories of humanity. Of the many, the printing press would have made the most impact on our technology and communicating ways. Without it, we may have not came across many of the invention.

Pencil, hands down.

There is a large portion of technology that we use primarily for leisure and recreational use. Comments above are stating if you do not have a certain electronic device like an iPod or a cellphone, life will be difficult. But that is only because we now live in a generation where electronics are a common household item. However, that does not necessary mean it is the most important invention.
A pencil has uses that no form of technology has. Feelings and emotions are not read through technology. Life will be emotionless without the pencil.
Art cannot be expressed, and no form of technology can replace a work of art.

I think that the most important invention was the photograph.I think it's the most important invention bacause it captures special moments of our life. Photograpghs give us a chance to look back at our life.

I think the printing press was the most important. It had made copying books faster and easier. All the copies of the books could be sent across the region and the people could buy them at a reasonable prise and learn from them.

i think that the telephone was the most important invention because it lets us talk to people all over the world from anywhere in the world.

I don't believe any of the abovementioned inventions are really important. True, they all helped make our lives easier, but they're not a necessity. We can live without pencils, we had written language before pencils, and cellphones? I didn't have a cellphone until I was 15. Was my life deprived and unliveable? No of course not. The internet made certain aspects of life easier but still is not important. In fact, it just created another medium for the work of stalkers, rapists, child pornographers, etc. Im my opinion, no man-made invention was ever important. Not the wheel, not youtube, not even the printing press. These are all just luxuries we use so we can be lazier. The human race would be better off if they had not ever evolved from apes. In fact, the whole world would probably be better off without our fandangled inventions.

Greetings,

First off, I would like to say that I cannot decide which invention is most important. Therefore, I feel the necessity to examine. So secondly, a definition taken from Wikipedia:

"Technology is a broad concept that deals with a species' usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects a species' ability to control and adapt to its environment."

If by will we create these tools and crafts, then surely we can call ourselves intelligent. We strive for the concepts of a hedonistic lifestyle, thus, we immerse ourselves in whatever is given, and dwell in prosperous ideals. However, culture can perhaps be forever distinguished by their stages of technology. Yet, there are no implications that state that whosoever has the greatest technological advancements also has the greatest economical and cultural success.

Technology is similarly an appendage of the mind. In a hypothetical situation, if we erase an invention from our world, would there not be something to fill it's gap in history? Would that one replacement not also serve the purpose and be utilized much like the previously erased invention?

Technicism is our redundant reliance on technology, but is it not also our nature and essence? I could not imagine our race without a form of creation ladder to rely on. I'm neither the Neo-Ludist or the anarchist, so I can only naively question the unimportance of any technological standards in the world.

Also, with little regards to the topic, insomnia allows me to ruminate for hours on even a trivial subject.
